The Widow’s House

This was a real slow start for me. In fact, so slow that I stepped away about a third of the way into the book and read something else.

Finally, last night I picked it back up and before I knew what had happened it was 2:00 am and I only had five pages left. I haven’t gotten pulled into a book like that in a good long while and though I’m paying for the lack of sleep today I think it was worth it.

This is the second novel I have read by Carol Goodman and I find this one far superior. I do have some issues with her leading ladies, but I can’t say too much about that without giving away a pretty central plot point and I don’t do spoilers. That said, Goodman knows how to create atmosphere. And despite some of my early suspicions, the story ends with a pretty significant twist I simply did not see coming until it was happening.
